The Wood Green Comic, Comix and Zine Library
A free collection for public use of alternative, small press and potentially hard to find comics.
I've organised the library into four categories:
Serials, Individual Issues and Zines
for soft-bound, and shorter issues for single story/artist titles
Books, Graphic Novels and Collected Editions
trade paperbacks, longer works, and hardback editions
for both books and smaller prints that feature more than one story/artist
comics, books and magazines that deal with comics
This is my personal collection of books, zines, issues, and articles around comics; I don’t particularly feel it is outstanding, and not all or much of it is ‘hard to find’; but having been in the position of looking for certain books or just exploring and not being able to find them in any library this generally means you have to go out and buy them or know who to borrow them from. With growing piles of paper around me, I thought at least to give people a chance to read for free if they wanted and also explore by chance some of the random small-print books I’ve happened to pick up. One thing I do feel might be more helpful, or a particular (small) focus to what I have here, is the publications I’ve gathered about and around comics towards understanding a conception of comics criticism, whether reflexive comics, histories, or otherwise. There are no superheroes here, a smattering of the basic US alterna-comics (Clowes, Ware and so on), and a large but fairly random selection of small-press comics and comix-oriented zines from where ever I've found them.
Entries are listed alphabetically by author, or by writer with artists following, or in the case of zines, magazines and anthologies by title. Each entry includes (where possible) the information, “city published in: publisher, year of publication”, followed by a brief explanation or short information on the entry if I felt it was needed.
