This exhibition is the latest in a developing collaboration between artists Beattie and Burke, and writer and curator Fite-Wassilak. Through sculpture, photographic sequences, video and sound they tap into our uneasy relationship to the hidden processes of the natural world. The open question of why our consciousnesses are felt as being in opposition to, if not entirely excluded from, these processes hangs over the work. ‘Feedback’ is an exploration of how we understand personal experience, particularly in light of interpretations of phenomenology in contemporary art, looking critically at how ‘experience’ has somehow come to be understood merely as a selfish, shallow immediacy. Here, their playful touch unfolds towards a wider perspective, towards the intimate, geomorphic tendencies of what Robert Smithson called ‘oceanic thinking’ and ‘geologic time’.
